Platinum Jubilee of Methodist High School, Chandrakal

News Correspondent A legacy of service 1 min read

The Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of Methodist High School, Chandrakal, were held on 15 May 2026, commemorating the death anniversary of Mrs. J. R. Kriz Fisher, fondly remembered as the Missionary Mother of Chandrakal. The grand occasion brought together alumni, retired teachers, current staff, residents, well-wishers and political leaders.

The history of the school traces back to the Methodist Episcopal Mission's arrival in Hyderabad in 1880 under William Taylor. As part of its rural outreach, the mission established the school in Chandrakal village in 1950. Its real growth began in 1952 with the arrival of Miss Josephine R. Kriz as a missionary.

With extraordinary dedication and compassion, she transformed the rural region into a centre of education, healthcare and social upliftment. She purchased land for the school and oversaw the construction of classrooms, staff quarters and separate hostels for boys and girls.

“From a modest primary school, it became a beacon of hope for the underprivileged.”

Miss Kriz also expanded missionary work by establishing churches in nearby villages. Recognising the urgent need for healthcare, she established a 100-bedded hospital that became the only major medical facility within nearly 50 kilometres, serving thousands of villagers. Over the decades the school has produced academicians, doctors, engineers, lawyers and bankers while upholding its commitment to discipline and excellence.

A key highlight was the release of a commemorative souvenir honouring Mrs. Kriz Fisher's lifelong missionary service. The Platinum Jubilee reaffirmed the institution's enduring mission to educate, uplift and inspire future generations.
