Nurturing Just and Inclusive Communities

Rev. Dr. Deenabandhu Manchala On justice and belonging 1 min read

The gospel calls the Church to be more than a gathering of the like-minded. It calls us to nurture communities marked by justice and inclusion, where the dignity of every person is honoured because each one bears the image of God.

Scripture consistently places the poor, the stranger and the marginalised at the centre of God's concern. A community shaped by the gospel cannot be indifferent to those whom society pushes to the edges. Justice is not a political add-on to faith; it flows from the very character of the God we worship.

“To include the excluded is to reflect the heart of a God who welcomes us all.”

Building such communities takes intentional work — listening to those whose voices are seldom heard, sharing power rather than hoarding it, and making room at the table for people of every background. The early church astonished the world precisely because rich and poor, slave and free, Jew and Gentile sat together as one family.

As we nurture just and inclusive communities, we bear witness to the Kingdom of God — a kingdom where the last are first, the broken are healed, and no one is beyond the reach of grace.
